    The Opening Battle

Deysi Tello from Peru faced Russia's Anastasia Travkina in the 2010 World Youth Chess Championship Girls U18 section, with both players entering a Semi-Slav Defense after 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.c4 c6 4.Nc3 e6. The opening followed standard theory until Black captured on c4 with 6...dxc4, leading to the typical pawn structure where White gets central control in exchange for Black's queenside expansion.

Travkina pushed for counterplay with 7...b5 and 9...b4, forcing White's knight to retreat and gaining space on the queenside. The position remained balanced through the opening phase, with both sides completing development and castling kingside.

    The Critical Middle Game

The game's turning point came around move 18 when Tello played 18.d5!, opening the center and creating immediate threats. After 18...exd5 19.Qxd5, White's queen dominated the center while Black's pieces struggled to coordinate effectively.

Travkina tried to create counterplay with 22...Qb5, but Tello maintained pressure with accurate moves like 25.e5, pushing Black's knight away from its strong central post. The key sequence came with 26.exf6 Rxf3 27.fxe7, where White sacrificed the queen for rook and bishop but gained a powerful passed pawn on e7.

    The Winning Endgame

After 28.exd8=Q+ Rxd8, the position transformed into a complex rook endgame where White's extra material advantage became decisive. Tello demonstrated excellent technique, using her rook actively while pushing the queenside pawns.

The final phase saw Black desperately trying to create counterplay with 50...b3, but White's 54.Nxf6+ and subsequent knight maneuvers proved too strong. Travkina's last attempt with 59...Qd5 couldn't prevent White from converting the material advantage.

Tello sealed the victory with precise endgame play, culminating in 68.Nf3 where Black resigned, facing inevitable mate threats.

    Technical Excellence

This game showcased the level of play expected at the World Youth Championships, with both players demonstrating solid opening preparation and tactical awareness. Tello's conversion of the complex middlegame into a winning endgame highlighted the technical skills that would later make her one of Peru's strongest players.

The Semi-Slav Defense provided rich strategic content, and the resulting positions offered both sides chances for creative play.
